What to Expect at Your First Acupuncture Visit

A first session generally includes a conversation about your health, an individualized assessment, and time to receive acupuncture in a calm setting.

Your first acupuncture visit begins with a conversation. Your practitioner may ask about the concerns that brought you in, your general health, daily routines, and the goals you would like to explore through care.

The assessment may include questions that feel broader than the main reason for your visit. In Chinese medicine, details such as sleep, digestion, energy, and stress can help provide context for an individualized treatment approach.

During acupuncture, fine sterile needles are placed at selected points. The number and location of points vary from person to person. You can ask questions, share preferences, and speak up about comfort at any point in the visit.

Responses to acupuncture differ, and no specific result can be guaranteed. Acupuncture can be used alongside conventional medical care, but it does not replace evaluation or treatment from your medical providers.
